Staff Sergeant Hill

Sometime on or after June 9th, 1944, Staff Sergeant Hill was in Neuville, France when he and his men encountered a squad of Rangers, led by Captain John Miller, looking for Private James Ryan. Hill and his group had been separated from the rest of their unit by a German counterattack, and they set out with the Rangers in order to find their commanding officer, Captain Fred Hamill.

After one of the Rangers was killed by a German sniper, Hill and the others stopped to rest while a messenger went off to search for Hamill. Sitting down to remove something out of his boot, Hill accidentally knocked over a section of wall which revealed a small group of Germans. Both sides raised weapons and voices, and the tense stalemate was ended when Hamill and another paratrooper arrived and fired automatic weapons into the Germans.
